Understanding  Bard and ChatGPT

What is Google Bard

Google Bard is a chatbot powered by AI, utilizing natural language processing and machine learning ( Machine Learning complete course ) to simulate human conversations, drawing responses from the internet.

After ChatGPT’s launch and integration into Microsoft’s Bing search engine, it was only a matter of time before Google introduced its own chatbot to rival ChatGPT.

In February 2023, Google announced the release of Bard AI, a generative AI tool powered by their language model LaMDA.

Until now, google fully upgraded Bard powering it with the more powerful PaLM 2 model, offering improved performance in reasoning, coding, and multilingual capabilities. It’s well suited for creative tasks, provides cited sources, and it’s available for free.

What is ChatGPT.

ChatGPT, released by OpenAI in collaboration with Microsoft on Nov. 30, 2022, is an AI chatbot using machine learning to answer questions and preform tasks in a conversational way.

GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer, ChatGPT  uses the GPT-3.5 language model, trained on the data on the internet. The paid version, ChatGPT Plus, now uses the upgraded GPT-4 model which has greater capabilities than GPT-3.5.

  • Blog posts
  • Email drafts.
  • Summaries of transcripts, meetings and podcasts.
  • Simple explanations of complex topics.
  • Law briefs.
  • Translations.
  • Jokes or memes.
  • Social media posts.
  • Data analysis etc.

But just note that each have their capabilities over the other we are going to cover these in this guide so keep reading.

ChatGPT vs. Bard at a glance

Apart from the comparisons, both ChatGPT and Google Bard have some similarities such as;

  • Both are AI powered Chatbots and use Machine Learning to generate responses in a conversational way.
  • Both use Natural Processing Language ( NLP ) which means users key in a prompt or Queries and the chatbots generate human like responses based on the prompts provided.
  • Both work well with the experience of the user that’s why we have compiled a course here on how to use ChatGPT correctly.
  • Both AI chatbots automatically apply basic formatting—like headings and bolded text—to their responses, making it easier to scan through.
  • Both store search and conversion history for future reference in the side panel of each chatbots homepage.
  • Both have quick action panels for example you can like and dislike responses for it to improve on feature responses.

I’ll talk about the main ways ChatGPT and Bard are different in more detail later on, but for now, here’s a quick summary of how they compare.

Diving Deeper into differences between Google Bard and ChatGPT.

  • Bard makes it easy to modify questions and responses than ChatGPT.

If you don’t like the response in ChatGPT and you want to alter it, you must prompt it again with specific instructions on how you want the answer to be updated. Like in the picture.

Bard, on the other hand enables you to promptly adjust each response’s length or tone by clicking the Modify response icon, resembling a stack of horizontal bars, and choosing from options like shorter, longer, simpler, more casual, or more professional—eliminating the need for a new prompt.

  • Both Bard and ChatGPT can access the Internet but ChatGPT its in Paid Version while in Bard its Free.

ChatGPT and Bard both utilize web searches to enhance their responses, but there are distinct variations.

  1. Bard grants internet access to all users, whereas ChatGPT restricts this feature to those with a paid subscription.
  2. During my web browsing experience with the chatbots, ChatGPT consistently exhibited longer response times than Bard and frequently encountered network errors.

You can read our comprehensive article on how to use ChatGPT to access the Internet.

  • ChatGPT is perfect for research while Google Bard is a better witter.

Bard’s talkative assistant nature helps with research but doesn’t cite sources automatically. You can use the Google icon on the interface to fact-check or explore more.

Green highlights mean similar info, orange means differing info. It also suggests related search queries.

On the other hand, ChatGPT Gas is the best for natural language tasks, driving various AI tools such as Jasper, Copy.ai, and Bing’s AI tools.

Its extensive training on web text emphasizes text generation through statistical patterns. In its role within ChatGPT, it operates not only as a chatbot but also performs functions like summarization, translation, and other text-centric roles.

This makes ChatGPT a better writing tool than bard in my opinion, For example, when I asked ChatGPT to write a tweet about Zapier, it followed the rules for tweets, like keeping it short and using emojis and hashtags.

It produces the results as required and the tweet is captivating with all elements and emojis included.

Bard, on the other hand, gave me only the elements of a post: a message, hashtags, and emoji. It’s almost as if it wanted me to choose my own adventure.

ChatGPT is better  in generating blog ideas, writing articles or emails, and brainstorming content marketing ideas than Google Bard. For instance, when I asked both AI chatbots to outline a blog post about the current  bee crisis, here’s part of what Bard came up with.

And here’s a portion of the outline from ChatGPT.

While both Bard and ChatGPT produced robust outlines, ChatGPT went a step beyond, crafting not only a solid outline but also developing a working title, headings, and subheadings—elements that I consider the most challenging aspects of article writing.

Basically, GPT can handle different types of writing, like content marketing. Bard, however, seems more focused on being a tool for research.

  • ChatGPT and Bard both helps in generating responses easily, but Bard goes a bit further by connecting with Google apps.

You can share your responses right within Bard with others and If someone has access, they can keep generating responses from their end while ChatGPT you cant and that’s difference between ChatGPT and Bard.

  • ChatGPT doesn’t let you share conversations with images while with Bard it’s Possible.

If you share the entire chat after uploading an image with Bard, the image becomes visible and downloadable to anyone with access to the conversation.

When you upload an image to a ChatGPT conversation, it must remain private. You can either retain it for personal use or capture the response through copying or taking a screenshot, as sharing conversations with images is currently not supported.

  • Bard lets you export responses to Google Docs and Gmail while ChatGPT do not.

As Bard is a Google product, it’s expectedly linked to your Google Workspace specifically, Google Docs and Gmail.

Imagine you utilized Bard to create an article outline. Now, exporting that response to Google Docs for drafting is a smooth process, without the need for copying and pasting, in contrast to ChatGPT which cannot. The same applies to Gmail.

  • Bard can retrieve images from the web while ChatGPT can generate AI images.

Bard stands out from ChatGPT because it can find relevant images on Google Search. Whether you’re looking up dog breeds, pictures from the James Webb telescope, or bicycle repair guides, Bard can show you specific images from different websites to help you visualize better.

You also have the option to click on an image, and Bard will open the web page containing the image source in a new browser tab.

ChatGPT on the other hand can’t get pictures from the internet, but it can generate AI images using DALL·E 3. This feature is for paid subscribers. You can use ChatGPT to create images for blogs, make logos, or have fun making cool pictures, like a fluffy dog painting galaxies.

You may be interested to know how you can use ChatGPT to generate AI images, so don’t hesitate to read this article to learn How to generate AI images using DALL·E 3 in ChatGPT.

  • Bard and ChatGPT can analyse images with prompts, but Bard lets you do it for free while ChatGPT it’s in the Paid Version.

You can put up pictures along with your message and tell Bard to check them out. Like, you can ask Bard to describe a picture.

ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users can perform identical actions using ChatGPT, but it is important to note that sharing such conversations, including those involving images, with others is not allowed.

  • ChatGPT has more powerful integrations than Bard AI.

Bard and ChatGPT connect to other apps differently. Bard uses Bard Extensions to access real-time data from Google apps like Gmail and Maps, enabling tasks such as finding flights or extracting details seamlessly within the chat.

For instance, Bard effortlessly retrieves flight options for upcoming trips.

ChatGPT employs a similar approach, utilizing plugins. With over 30 available options, these plugins can seamlessly work together.

For instance, you can request a recipe recommendation, accurately determine calorie count using the Wolfram plugin, and then generate a shopping list with the Instacart plugin all within the AI chat interface.

Advantages and disadvantages of Google Bard and ChatGPT, which is Better.

Pros /Advantages of Google Bard AI

  • Sometimes inaccuracy or false claims, including LLM hallucinations.
  • Lack of sources for responses.
  • Privacy and copy-rights concerts regarding the training data.
  • Paid version to use ChatGPT at full capacity.

In Conclusion: Google Bard and ChatGPT which is Better.

Google comes with notable advantages, including Internet access, but ChatGPT currently holds the edge. Expect this to change as Google refines its model with more data and introduces new features.

But nevertheless,  It’s good to know that ChatGPT and Bard share a similar con: both chatbots are prone to generating inaccurate responses (also known as hallucinations).

So, At the end of the day, the better AI tool depends on what you’re using it for and whether you can deal with those hallucinations.
